What job titles can he apply for?

My partner has been a sales executive for car sale showrooms for the last 6 years. He is very good at his job and earns a good wage, currently 25k minimum a year.

Recently he's very down and wants a jobs that's Monday to Friday as he never sees his 1 year old daughter and currently working 50 hours a week.

My question is what other job titles can he apply for except from a sales executive? Jobs that find sales experience 'attractive'? And jobs that dont involve cold calling.

He holds a management and sales nvq and customer service nvq

I was thinking a purchase ledger? As he has the gift of the jab!

Look at transferrable skills and go from there and it's not necessarily just work based skills.


Write down a list of possible careers not just jobs and look at how he fits in to a typical person spec.

Sounds like he has burnt himself out in his current role.

TBH £25K in car sales isnt a big hill of beans, particularly if you're having to work a 50 hr week to get it.

Unfortunately i'd think its fairly hard to get out of sales without starting somewhere else at the bottom.

Any scope for a sideways move where he is into customer service, aftersales, or fleet sales - all of which would have more reasonable hours.

If hes a valued employee the company may wish to facilitate this.

They say a change is as good as a rest - any scope for moving to another company in a similar role that isnt so demanding? Most small independent dealers tend to be less high pressure to work for

I work in a car dealership (not a sales person though!) and we've had many sales people leave for the very reason you've stated but as they've been very good they've usually come back with an agreement that they have at least 1 weekend off - bearing in mind that's when the bulk of people come into the showroom looking at cars.

Is it something he could approach his managers with?
