Gatwick - Grantham. Same route different operators?

Gatwick - Grantham. Same route but different operators?

Can I use my off peak return ticket from Gatwick to Grantham for any off peak service? There are many variations of direct routes from Gatwick to Grantham. Can I use any of them?

Just brought an off peak return from Grantham to Gatwick for travel out on 10 Nov, return 20th Nov (trainline.com).

The travel out is straightforward on Virgin and Gatwick Express, but the off peak return on Sunday specifies Hull trains yet there are numerous options for returning to Grantham using routes provided by Virgin, Hull, and two or three connecting services.

I brought an off peak ticket as flying back from America, specifying off peak as wanted to be covered for valid travel on any train in case of any flight delay. But the off peak tickets from Tramline.com specifies the route as HULLTRNS & TLGN. I am worried as the flexible choice of trains I thought I was getting now seems tied in to an infrequent service.

Can I use my ticket on any route from Gatwick to Grantham? Or does anyone have a better suggestion.

Thanks

Terry

    What price was your ticket?

An Offpeak Return valid on Hull Trains, Thameslink and Great Northern services is £92.50, or £61.05 with railcard.

An Offpeak Return valid on any permitted route is £106, or £69.95 with railcard.

Those prices do not include the trainline's charges.
Why did you use the trainline?
All the tickets they sell can be purchased at the same price or cheaper from train operating companies, and by doing so you avoid the trainline's fees.

A photo of your ticket (or type out all relevant info) and a screenshot of the booking confirmation, showing the itinerary, would enable us to advise.
