In your original post, you say you are a contractor operating as a Ltd company. Have you checked how this affects your ability to sign on?
I know if I go contracting (that was the plan) I'll be going under an umbrella company because the day your contract finishes you get a lovely shiny P45 to run down the dole office with if you need it.
I had a Ltd Company - and the time/effort it took to close it (took 4+ years due to an accountant !!!! up and then investigation by Corp Tax people I think before they decided I didn't owe any money and the company could be wound down.0 -
Yes I'm a limited company contractor. The plan is not to do anything with the company yet, though I will stop paying my accountant and find out what tax I owe.
I don't think the credit companies are going for the deal, so it looks like I'll have to either do it the hard way or, if nothing turns up very soon, declare myself bankrupt. :-(

Just wanted to bump this. Sorry that things are so bad but great that you are sorting. I really would suggest contacting CAB or one of the free debt agencies (links on site) for advice before you do anything. There may be a way other than going bankrupt & the forum at the top of main page may be able to assist more there. You may also get work in which case surely taking such drastic action is a bit premature? Moving home is a good idea as you'll save on bills etc ...cant offer much in the way of advice jst wanted to bump & say welcome to dfw!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hello,
I've had 3 of the creditors come back and so far none have agreed to the deal. Things have changed somewhat since then anyway. My Dad is very ill, there's nothing more that we can do for him but it's my Mum who is not coping (who isn't too hot on her feet either) so I've decided to sell as much as I can and move back there to sort out lots of things.
I have until the end of the month to sell/get rid of/move out all my stuff. I'm going to use this weekend to list everything and send out to friends and family first, then move onto eBay, etc. I should be able to take things like my big computer desk, also my large wardrobe is likely to be bought by my landlord as this house doesn't have it's own.
I had an interview for a job in London but will very likely turn it down if they offer it to me (and they were very keen on the day). It could have paid very well but perhaps just a month or 2 too early.
So once I've moved out in early November I'll go back to my creditors, update them on the situation and make them another offer. By this time I will not be paying them a penny as I would have run out of cash (aprt from the amount I'm saving for the deal). Perhaps I'll have some extra money to tempt them. But I would like some cash left over so that I can pursue my interest in photography and get serious with it. I've had one company pay for a set of my photos and another company interested in one more. I can use the spare money to travel a bit and take photos, perhaps aiming them for the stock image area. So who knows I might learn something and earn a bit of cash while I'm out of work and looking after my parents.
But I've done this before for 9 months and found it very hard to get back into work but maybe by then I'll be a better photographer and go down that route. If so then I would need to start from the bottom anyway.
First up though, is the list of things to sell and I'm due for a jobcentre interview on Tuesday to claim jobseekers and housing benefit. I will use that time to explain what I'm doing too, perhaps they could advise.

Hello,
All the companies came back saying they wouldn't help me. They will only help when I get into serious trouble and I'm in arrears. So basically they want to charge me to the hilt for missed payments and overlimit fees before they will help. :-(
My situation has changed and I'm now have moved back to my parents and looking after them - my Dad is very poorly. I currently have an income of about £60 a week (Job Seeker's Allowance) which goes on food and that's it.
What I'm going to do next is inform all the companies of the change of situation and ask them to freeze the account, freeze the interest and work out a payment plan. I'm not sure how long I'll be here looking after my parents but it could be several months yet.
I have a VAT bill to pay by the end of this month of about £460 (which I've kept over from my company's cash) and a corporate tax bill of about £1600 in June (which I have some but not all yet). Other than that I'm penny-less, though I *might* be due a tax refund but benefit will stop from April 2008.
How should I go about my next move? Any advise is much appreciated.

You still trying to contract? No chance of finding a permy role?0
-
Why have you not gone to CCCS? I am sorry you are in such a situation, and i hope something can be sorted out soon.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0

I was contracting, I am now looking after my poorly parents.
Is CCCS a good place to go then?
Krazy K0 -
Yes CCCS is a charity that will assist people in financial trouble, however, you can make an offer of £1 per month to your credit companies for the time being and request that they freeze interest.
