Fair Mortgage Contract

I'm currently looking to move out of my parent's house. I have enough for a deposit for a mortgage, my boyfriend is currently paying rent for accommodation in a dorm at the US Airforce base that he works at. He doesn't have any savings, so my current thinking is that I would pay for the mortgage and he would rent from me, however I have heard that he would own 50% of the home regardless of what he paid me if something were to happen to our relationship and we parted ways.
Has anyone had a similar situation to this and resolved it fairly, or does anyone have any thoughts?
