Abbey won't send proof of NCB!

I left Abbey for Direct Line, as they were unable to price match, and I requested proof of NCB. After a week they still hadn't sent anything, so I rang and asked them to email me proof. They said it would take 3-5 days to arrive. It's now 6 days and they still haven't sent anything.

Direct Line are saying they'll either cancel my insurance or raise the premium if I don't send them proof. I asked them if they could contact Abbey on my behalf and they said no, I have to get it myself. My renewal letter doesn't mention my NCB either.

I've sent Abbey an email and am awaiting a response, but is there anything I can do if they don't send me anything?

If Abbey have a local office, it might pay to give them a visit. I was in the same boat, requiring proof of named driver status, but Hughes emailed it immediately and followed up with a hard copy 2 days later. Sounds like sour grapes on Abbeys part. Hope you get sorted, that's worrying, try to keep Direct Line informed as often as possible.

I got my NCB the same day I requested it by telephone.

    Ring them on 08000 66 55 44

They must have realised that their prices are to high if people are now leaving them.
  • If you have the renewal quote from Abbey and it states the number of years NCB you have the new insurer should accept that.

They probably should, but i can say from my own experience Direct Line absolutely won't.

I had exactly the same issue earlier this year with the same companies, came within a whisker of having the insurance cancelled.
