Hi
Hope this is the correct forum, if not please accept my apologies.
If I purchase a product (candles) or (clothing) from a US website, what would be the charges on import duty on products with a total coming to around $150 ?
Thanks

It is quite steep as VAT is added at this end, so there is 17.5%, plus there is an import fee and a post office handling charge. Last time I ordered $120 worth of stuff from Landsend in USA I had to fork out £28, that was about 6 months ago.DEBT FREE since 2011

Clothing is subject to 12% duty so on £150 of clothes you would have to pay £18 duty and £29.40 VAT plus any handling fee by the parcel company.0 -
mine came in at nearly £45 for five t shirts
it was about three years ago but £15.99 of it was a
Royal Mail handling charge for getting it through
customs.I range customs and excise to to query
the charges and it seems it was right.I think mine
was just over £100 at the time.
Although $150 these days is around £75 so it may well
be less I did think the RM charge was excessive:j:j:j0 -
Dont you know anyone from the states who could send you this as a 'gift'?

The gift allowance is only £36 anyway so it's not going to help if you're importing a hundred pounds worth of anything.
Beware also with clothing such as t-shirts. A lot of clothing originating in USA is subject to additional duty of 15% on top of everything else, due to a longterm trade dispute between the EC and the USA.
Goods affected are listed here (if the link works):
