Drum roll please... The apple pie contest is announced!

    I didn't win. I didn't place at all.

Blergh. Even though you are taught from a young age it's all about the taking part, it's still sucks when you put a load of effort into something. My goodness, I have never researched pastry techniques, sourced special ingredients or spent so long making a pie in all my life. It's the taking part that counts!

My younger sister entered a cake into the competition. I badgered her into it at fairly last minute and she whipped something up. It looked lovely with meringue icing and apple curd. She got highly commended so I'm glad she won some recognition.

It's been a bit of a sucks a&@ day actually. Sorry for the sorry for myself atitutde today but hopefully it is just three things of bad luck or unpleasantness today. One of those days where you say to yourself, 'I have spent too long with my family. I'm going home so I don't constantly get told off or belittled.' My older sister is just a nightmare. I can last a day at most with her before I either bite back (unusual) or have to take myself off somewhere and have a word with myself. I can't change other people, but I can change myself. And I'm going home as my own company is better than this.

    2. I broke my grandmother's dish. I acquired the two serving dishes when I moved in and I use them daily. It makes me sad that I irreparably broke something that reminds me so much of my grandmother.

3, My friend went to York. I'm just a tiny bit hurt that my friend went to York without me and took another friend. I had been talking to her that I really wanted to go as I went to Law college there and loved my time. I see on Facebook that she has gone with another friend.

All three things are small and very inconsequential. But today has just been a bit of an unhappy one for me.

Lovely, everyone has feelings and it sounds like yours have been hurt today. It's part of being a human. All I can say on the plate front is at least you got pleasure from using it and didn't just let it sit in a box. You still have your memories of using the plate and no one can take those away. Hugs to you and hope tommorow is brighter.

    Hello lovely people.

I've snapped out of the funk I was in. Thank you for your kind words. I had been a little upset, and probably just needed a bit of a cry.

Anyway, I seem to be haemoraging money the moment. My car had to go in for a service before I start work. I knew it was going to be costly so was mentally prepared and did some leg work before asking for prices etc. Nevertheless £301 gone. Car feels better but it has to go in again to fix the second problem. That can wait until a pay day soon. I do hope I haven't bought a dud, or at least I hope I have now fixed the 'dudness' and I won't be faced with too many more problems.

I have also got into the habit of going out to buy yellow sticker food. I think it's the thrill of the chase! The thrill of seeking out a sticker treasure amongst full price items. My freezer is full! Luckily this time I found a load of veg I could freeze, but seriously, I need to eat what I have in. I must have a self imposed ban on buying anymore food!

Joined the gym, which I think will be a good thing. The membership is now all paid up until the end of the year with a special deal and I get to use all three centres. No excuses now! I went yesterday and discovered I have gotten so large that none of my sports bras fit any more! They feel horribly tight round my chest and some don't even do up! How bad is that!? I look like I have eaten my former self. I shall resist buying anymore, and try to slim into the ones I have.

Did a car boot today with younger sister. We didn't expect to make millions and it was just an exercise in getting rid of some rubbish. We made £49.50 profit. I did spend £5 of mine but spotted the pottery I use in my kitchen and bought a storage jar that I know you can still buy for £25 in prestine condition. I was pleased with that and the small amount of cash in my pocket is always welcome.

I got quite in to it actually. I could see why you get such a big mix of people and I spotted good things that if I wasn't strict with myself I would have purchased for barely nothing. We spotted a good friend there who goes before work, does a very quick scout for any antique bargains before he goes to work. I think he might be on to something. I'll bear it in mind for future times.
I'm going to do another clear out in the remaining days and go on my own to hopefully sell some of our remaining tut. No splitting the profits this time!

Tomorrow my plan for the day is:
Make a spinach and squash lasagne - (really just need to use up the squash I grew. Who knows what it will tastes like - I suspect I'll just add mega amounts of cheese).
Sort out anything for the car boot
    Start induction pre read
List two high value items on Preloved and gumtree
Pick up some top soil if time.
    Go to the gym

I'm a big YS fan too. Food is one of our biggest costs each month, all of us. By cutting back in a way that isn't harmful to anyone you can make big savings and help the planet by reducing food waste.

  • You're sounding very positive Wanno! Well done on the car boot. I kept meaning to do one over the summer but never quite organised myself enough and now I just want rid so it's all going to the charity.

I know the feeling of clothes not fitting :o I too bought a year's gym membership in August and have been a grand total of once. I really need to get into the habit before the dark nights really set in!
