Advice on 3 year old ticket please...

Hi all, another guy seeking some advice please...

I received a parking notice in June 2013 for parking in a mother and baby spot at my local Sainsburys. I followed the advice on here and ignored the numerous requests for payment and threats of court action, it eventually went quiet, I got a letter again about 6 months ago and then again today I received a letter on Gladstones Solicitors paper giving me 14 days to pay the £160 or else.....
Anyway, I think I am now regretting not appealing the ticket initially as I am sure there were a number of errors in the issueing of the ticket.

The ticket was on my windscreen in the usual Parking Charge Notice envelope.
The ticket itself is handwritten with what looks like pencil, I haven't been able to upload a photo but it says :-

SO08 K**
Fine of £60 will now be given unless paid within 14 days where it will be £30
Car Alfa Romeo
date 26.6.13
colour red
Sainsburys Macclesfield
SMTC 1
Parent and Child bay

On the back is the SMART Parking payment details etc.
Had I appealed I guess my argument is that only the Police or Council can issue fines, but I think I'm to late to argue that now.

Any advice on what I should do now would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like a debt collector letter (from a Solicitor on the face of it, that's all) not a letter before Court?

£160 sounds like Debt Recovery plus yet you've said this is Gladstones? Please confirm - Smart parking?

There's a pattern starting to emerge of a Smart/DRP/Gladstones arrangement. Maybe it will become another BWL-style blizzard?

Stick a solicitors' logo and address on a debt collection letter and watch the payments roll in, and all share in the spoils!

Did they actually use the word "fine" on that initial windscreen ticket?
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

The "Gladstones" letter usually says pay DRPL. Does it?

  • Thanks for the replies.
The letters did used to be from Debt Recovery plus, this is the 1st from Gladstones, saying pretty much the same as previous letters had... but the amount they want I think has increased.

Yes, they did write the word 'Fine' on the ticket.

So, do you think I should carry on ignoring?

    Cheers
