Nothing wrong with being a "housewife", I gave up work 7 years ago, I am not tied to the house as the title implies and I am not a fanatical house proud person, I just enjoy being at home and doing as I please, I am free to do whatever I want within reason, fortunately I am financially able to do this.

Being a housewife should not be undermined, it's just an old fashioned title.

    a slightly difference perspective.......
whilst the idea of retiring early would be nice..... the financial worries dont lead me to think that far ahead.....

my plan is to change jobs in 5 years time.... i woul dhave done 10 years with current company, but also my 3 endowment policies will have matured and halved (at least) my mortgage, meaning i can change jobs/careers....... as the travelling to and from by car is right pain......

my OH has just started a part time job back in an office which she hasnt had for 15 years due to kiddies....... not that she hasnt worked, but the work was menial (her words). i am currently investigating what sort of job would give me the enjoyment i crave as the current 8:30 to 5 plus 2.5 hours travelling is to me a waste.........

any ideas on where i should look to see what i could enjoy......
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • Hi, miss pp,
i think your plan is great. I left work to bring up our son and only returned to pay his school fees and now uni fees. I have never regreted it and had a wonderful time at home. i am a femminist also and spent the 70s fighting then fight with the best of them. Ihave a number of professional qualifications and am educated to masters level but my absolute best job was being a housewife and mother. I would advise you to go for it and enjoy it you are so right to say that you should enjoy life rather than just working for money to save. Good on you, keep us up to date with your progress as I for one am inspired by your plans.

Finding a job where you can work from home may be a way out for some. But it doesn't suit everyone and can throw up difficulties of its own.

Freelance and part-time work are other possibilities.

Back on topic, don't forget to pay your voluntary NI conts for your state pension ;):)
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
