What to make with tin of black beans?
[Deleted User]

After my last shop, I realised that, instead of picking up a tin of refried beans (which I love with tacos) I'd picked up a tin of black beans instead (almost identical labels)
. I've never had them before and was wondering if anyone has used them in a recipe they'd recommend? Thanks.

how about making refried beans in the slow cooker? http://penniesandpancakes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/crockpot-refried-beans-019-per-cup.html#.V908cfArLIW
you'd have to reduce the cooking time & water content as they are already cooked. I made this with dried blackbeans the other week and it's good
You can use beans in anything - chilli veggie or meat, pasta bake, as a side with mexican food
oooo now I'm thinking! What about a mexican chilli chocolate bean soup ala jack monroe?DF as at 30/12/16

Sounds great. I love posting on this board - so much useful knowledge out there. I'd missed JM's soup recipe (somehow?) but it sounds delicious (especially as there's chocolate in it!)
One quick question - does anyone know how to convert recipes for dried beans/beans in tins to the other? Or in other words, by roughly how much do dried beans increase in weight when they're cooked?
Cheers.0 -

Thanks for this. It seems to suggest that for beans and lentils they expand 3x when cooked.
I guess it's an American site - and, sadly, I don't know what a Cup is equivalent to, but I guess remembering the 3x after cooking is a good rule of thumb.0 -

A cup is any cup you wish to use...just use it for the rest of the recipe! x0 -
