Apple Crumble emergency!

Help! I made apple and blackberry crumble this morning and stupidly forgot to put the sugar in with the apples before putting the crumble on top. Is it salvable at all??
Also, I was intending on doing Delia's parmesan parsnips but have forgotten the parmesan. What can I do to get them that lovely crustiness? I can't get to the shops before the guests arrive.
As you can tell it's not been a good morning.

If you're serving the crumble with custard it will be plenty sweet enough I think.
Maybe dust the parsnips with flour or brown them in a frying pan before baking?
Lots of gravy and you'd never know the differenceBossymoo

I'd poke some holes through the crumble and get some honey or sugar into the fruit, and/or put extra sugar into the custard.
Do you have any polenta or Smash you could sprinkle onto the 'snips? I've not done the Delia ones so don't know how they're meant to be but I get a good result from mashed potato bits crisping up.They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
I very rarely add sugar to the fruit in blackberry'n'apple crumble - only if the apples are a tad small, and so likely to be extremely sharp to taste. If necessary, diners can easily add a little at the table; (put some Demerara, if you have it, in a pretty pot with a small spoon for sprinkling if you're serving to guests) but I'd taste it first before adding any, chances are it'll be fine without.

It is not savable. PM me and I will take it off your hands. It will not go to waste!
Or, just don't tell anyone, they will probably not notice!0 -
You could try serving the crumble in portions upside down style, with the crumble on the bottom, then sprinkle sugar over the apples. One life - your life - live it!0

Thank you everyone, some great suggestions. Love the idea of using lots of custard!
I can't tell you how many times this site has helped me.0
