Facebook Share, confused about rules

Options
I'm still confused a little about what the rules are regarding sharing competitions on Facebook.
I thought sharing comps was against the rules yet some competitions ask us to share

Asking for shares and tags are against Facebook terms and conditions.
Unfortunately many people do not know or care for it and continue to ask any way, unfortunately due to the amount of competitions Facebook aren't on top of it, but I feel they tend to focus on smaller independent pages as they have had competitions removed or even there pages suspended due to not sticking to their terms, but I often see larger well known companies getting away with it time and time again.

I very rarely enter those who ask for shares.

Those that do share also don't always set their post to 'public' and are set to 'friends' and therefore their entry wouldn't even count due to them not publicly sharing so the company can't even see their share.
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

They are not supposed to directly ask but the person entering does not break the rules by sharing.

    (Same goes for tagging etc)

Although excessive sharing or tagging can get your FB account suspended - which has happened to many MSE members in the past

Don't know why it bothers people. I share all the time and have done for years with no problems. More important things in life to worry about. The only thing that bothers me in connection with it and thousands of others is when some unknown person comes onto a fb thread and says 'Its against fb rules to ask for shares....' Some people have way to much time on their hands and an inflated sense of self importance.

Most important point to remember is that is is NOT against the rules for people to share a comp, just for the companies to ask for it. This is why i have no idea why people are so bothered by it. Doesn't affect those entering comps at all.

  • Just to clarify as I'm useless at social media!

I can just about manage to post a comment and like a page on FB, when it asks me to share to enter a competition, I have selected share... then selected post and it says it has shared to my timeline as I don't have any FB friends. However I've just noticed that in my privacy check-up drop down box, the 'who can see my future posts' was set to friends and I've just now selected public. Does that mean six months of entering competitions has been a waste of time as the company's couldn't see my shared? 😳

Bothers me because I don't want to share with my friends. I'm sure they don't want it, and I don't particularly want them to know every comp I've entered! Yes, I know they can change their settings to hide my posts, but I don't really want to just use FB for comps, I use it see/show stuff.

I have pointed it out to organisers before but only when they've said 'you won't be entered if you don't share' - otherwise I'd have just ignored it and not shared. (Not cos I have an inflated sense of importance ;))

theres been LOADS asking for shares recently.. it annoys me just because it must clog up my friends feeds, and I don't want a fb account just for comps. Stops me from entering so many.... but yeah as stated previously i'm always moaning about social media comps :rotfl:
Thanks to everyone that posts :T:money:
