Changing Payment Date

I'm due to change job at the beginning of January at which point my pay day will move from the 25th of the month to the last day of the month. As I currently pay my mortgage on the 26th I wanted to push this back to the 1st so that it would continue to be after pay day.
I've phoned my mortgage company (Nationwide) and there seems to be no way of doing this that doesn't involve me making two mortgage payments in one month, something I'm loathe to do with Christmas just round the corner. They say it's because they need 10 days between the date I currently pay and the date I want to move my payment to, even though the account the payment comes out of is also Nationwide!
Has anyone managed to change their payment in this way? I thought (clearly wrongly) that I would have to pay an additional few days interest on top of the monthly payment for one month and that would be it. I don't really want to stump up nearly £1000 extra to move the payment date by a matter of no more than 5 days.

AFAIK Nationwide can only do 1st to 28th, so if you want last day of the month, you are effectively going a month behind to 1st of following month as payments are made in advance, not in arrears.
I know of no other way you can do this, other than get your account ahead of the game by making an additional payment.I am a mortgage broker.
