Hello all - I'm not new to the forum as I have been lurking for many years and finally taken plunge and signed up! Nice to "meet" you all!
In the last week I have been receiving almost daily calls from a company called CABOT.
I have ignored the last few, as during the first conversation before disclosing the reason for her call, the lady requested I confirm my personal details (name, address, dob etc) which I refused to do as I did not recognise the company name. She said my request for privacy was understandable; and gave me a reference number to look up the reason why they were calling on their website.
So I go to the website, put the ref she gave me in and it just said to call their switchboard. SO this to me says scam straight away, however I KEEP receiving calls.
I've not had a single letter from any debtor or Cabot. 8 odd years ago CCCS put me on a plan, helped me to stop my debts snowballing and since then I haven't defaulted, ignored or missed any payments.
My experian report shows no anomalies (bar one that is an error that HSBC / Experian are investigating) ...
So I guess my question for you guys is - what do I do!? Do I have to consent to confirming personal details over the phone? They're refusing to tell me what the call is about unless I declare my name/address/DOB - am I legally obliged to divulge such information? Could it be they don't have my address and that is why they are persisting?
Your help / guidance would be much appreciated! MissC

Ignore Cabot completely unless you receive something in writing.
It's what they call a fishing trip, if they recon they can pin the debt on you, they will write to you.
You would then respond with the "provit" letter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thank you! I had a feeling - seemed unusual to me to get so many phone calls when there's been no letter. I've now blocked the number.
A few years back I'd have just rolled over to a call like this - there's something to be said for having a firm grasp on your finances!0 -
It's simply because it's quicker and cheaper for them to phone than write to you.
But to comply with the legal side of things, they must write to you, to ask you to pay a debt.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
