Mortgaging when relocating?

Hi All,
We are relocating 300 miles away to 'live the dream'.
The original idea was to pay off our mortgage, and therefore need less income, enabling us to work part-time and live much more flexibly. :T
That's all feasible, with enough houses to choose from in our price bracket. However, for another £30k, we can look at the next level of houses, compromising much less.
The question is, is it possible to borrow this (relatively) small amount, without securing a job first?
We have enough savings that can be ring-fenced to cover a few years mortgage repayments, plus enough self-employment income to cover living expenses. (The self-employed income isn't yet proven enough to be considered by our current lender). Which leaves us technically without a job to go to. Would any lender even look at us? (Our existing, Halifax, won't).
As I say, we do intend to look for part-time work up there, and have put 1 years emergency living costs by too, so we are not completely bonkers.
We wouldn't be able to afford another move later, so if there was a chance of getting a better house, we'd like to go for it.
Or am I living in a pipe dream?
