Vodafone bill default nightmare

Hi all. After a nightmare service with Vodafone a 'manager' decided my contract could be cancelled with no termination fee around 1 year ago. Since then I received no correspondence and assumed all was well. 2 months ago I got a letter for outstanding balance of over £600. I called and spoke to several people and eventually was told the issue would be escalated and I would receive a phonecall withing 7 days - low and behold it never happened. So this time I called them, recorded the phonecall and got my partner who works in the business to speak on my behalf. We eventually got to speak to someone who seemed to take ownership, she confirmed the account should never have been overdue as it was in the previous notes that it was confirmed to cancel with no fee. She confirmed all was ok the account was closed with no debt to settle and updated the notes yet again to state this. Now some 6 weeks later i have received another letter stating I have 14 days to pay or it will go to a debt collection agency. I have the recorded phonecall which you can clearly understand her stating everything is settled. I also have a default on my credit file because of this now. I will not speak to them over the phone regarding this now. I want everything in writing. I just need to know where to send my letters, should i try get the recorded phonecall burned to disk so they can listen to it? This is bringing alot of stress to myself and my partner as we will be looking to get a mortgage in the future which wont be possible with this default on my file. I really need some help.
Thanks for any help in advance
