Mortgage DD returned due to insufficient funds

URGH !!

So, just had the mortgage re-done so that we can extend. Long story short but there wasn't enough money in the account this morning to take the direct debit so when Santander tried to take it it says that its been taken but then returned.

Ive put the money in the account now so there are plenty of funds there for it to go out but what is likely to happen ?

1. is this likely to effect my credit rating ?
2. I'll phone Santander tomorrow, but what will happen. I presume i can instruct them to take the DD again and this will just be a late payment rather than a missed payment ?

URGH.. again :(

Ring up and make a manual payment. The direct debit won't be retaken.
  • This happened to me, however not quite the same. Nationwide messed up when I changed my DD dates and took the mortgage twice within a 2 week period (they admitted fault). Anyway I can confirm that none payment of mortgage did go on my credit file, and was removed by Nationwide as it was their error. However it was definitely there and there for 2 months,

Ive phoned the bank and apparently they automatically try again in the middle of the month (DD was due on the 1st) so as long as it goes through ok at that point it shouldnt go on my credit file. I will be charged £15 though for the DD return

Make sure it is paid as soon as possible. There is a change it will not them show on your credit file. Talk to the lender.
