Getting the smell out of synthetic football boots?

Hi,
I played in a 24 hour football match last week, and my ~2 month old synthetic football boots smell absolutely awful. I've put them through the washing machine twice and sprayed them with Oust but it just seems to make them worse.
We were talking about it and most people's solution was to simply buy a leather pair - but I don't want to wear animal products so unfortunately this isn't an option
Is there anyway to get the smell out please?

Try putting in a load of bicarb and leave them for a couple of days. It does help.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Thank you! Just poured some bicarb in and will leave them outside in the sun for a few days0

I have one of those water bottles that has a charcoal filter, and it says after 6 months, although it's no good to keep filtering water, it can be used to put in shoes to cancel out the smell.
Yet to test the theory, but I know in China people do buy charcoal to remove general household smells.Giant London-sized mortgage (started July 2017) £472,561 /£499,000 Current LTV 85%

Cat litter is also supposed to be good for getting rid of smells.0

I don't mean to be facetious but, presuming you only wear them for football, does the smell actually matter?0

I don't think that the problem is the synthetic smell, am taking it's a sweaty odour after wearing for quite a long time all in one go, and you wouldn't want that lurking about in the house.0 -
Fill some tights with cat litter, add a few drops of essential oils. Leave in the boots each time you don't wear them....obviously, or you'll be uncomfortable.
Hope this helps....it works with stinky slippers!0 -
I have come across an American product called Stinkboss. It is a box in which you put shoes, boots etc. or even a riding hat which will get pongy in time. The UV creates an ozone apparently which destroys the bacteria which makes the smell. Sweat on its own is odorless. There doesn't seem to be a UK equivalent and other products just aren't so versatile. Maybe someone out there is in the know....Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

you've mentioned you put them through the washing machine. With my sons shinpads I soak them in milton solution as they really stink. It might be worth a try if nothing else works, as they would effectively be sterilised it gets rid of the bacteria that causes the smell.0

I use Dettol disinfectant spray for my trainers when they smell. Give a good spray and leave to dry.Sealed pot challenge member 4370
