MUCH better than i expected.

Well i finally had my day in court and became bankrupt on Fri. I was soooooooo nervous and really worried about the whole experence.

I was soo wrong. A lady went through my application with me and talked me through where i needed to sign and things. I'd done my forms online and she was asking how i'd found it and was very pleasant. Apparently there are a few things on the form that are missed out on the online versions but she patiently went through everything occasionally asking questions.

When she was done she explained what would happen next and where i needed to go. I was led to another area and asked to wait to see the judge. The court usher came over and introduced himself and was also very pleasant. Again he told me everything that would happen and what i needed to do.

The judge asked to see me and was lovely - it was more like an informal chat as opposed to a dreaded 'interview'. The only thing he asked me was whether or not i'd had any formal advice - i confirmed he had and he signed the papers. Then again advised what would happen next and what i could expect.

I waited outside the judge's chambers for a phone call from the OR and the court usher came over to make sure i was ok and offered me a cup of tea saying the call could be some time. He was lovely!

Eventually the call came, i was shown to a private office and given a copy of my application. The lady on the phone was also lovely! i couldn't believe it - she asked a few questions and was really chatty. At one point she asked about my wages and whether i'd arranged alternate arrangements for payment rather than using my bank account. I explained i was using my brothers account, she laughed asking if i really trusted my brother that much! She was really nice, she also asked about any assets and i explained it was only my car and that i was really worried about losing it and that i needed transport - she just said - 'dont worry about that right now, they can be pretty flexible about that!'

I could have screamed! i was so pleased!

I was so pleased and impressed with how nice the whole experience had been. I heard some pretty major horror stories so was really worried. At no point was i made to feel foolish or that 'i'd got myself into a mess'. Everyone was so nice, helpful and informative.

It was almost a pleasant experience!!! lol:rotfl:

    Wow, that's great Lizzibuff.:j:j

It's hard to explain sometimes how most of the courts and OR's are friendly and sympathetic, but yours seem to have been especially so.:D

  • Great news Lizzie.
It is really a very painless experience, but that doesn't make it any less stressful.
I, also found the court staff to be extremely nice and they explained things so well at each stage.
Keep posting and let us know how things go from here.
    Well done:T

    Good evening all,

It's such a pity that we don't have the time to post a thread, possibly a Sticky, that quotes how many times people say this sort of thing. Whenever I say to somebody "it's not as bad as you think" or "everything will turn out ok" you know they don't believe you, and understandably so.

It might just give some solace to people who think that bankruptcy is the end of the world as opposed to the chance of a new beginning. If I ever win the lottery and become a man of leisure, it would be a labour of love to do it.:D :D Or, if I get a few spare hours at work, which is eminently more likely.
  • Woo hoo !  well done lizzie, another one the creditors cant hassle !:j :j glad it all went well !:T :T
