Hi,
Do you know any markets and/or butchers which are similar or ideally cheaper than supermarkets in London?

Yes, there is a big veg and fruit market every day (except Sundays) and a very good and cheap wholesale butcher, dickinson's, on Northend Road in Fulham. The veg and fruit are in bowls and you pay £1 for each bowl in most of the stalls. The butcher is brilliant. It is on the same side like the veg&fruit stores, slightly opposite from the co op supermarket near Lillie road. A huge pork chop costs 0.99 and the other meats are dead cheap, too. I have been going there for fruit, veg and meat for the last 7 years and it is the best value. The fruit and veg stall I go to is right opposite the co op supermarket on the corner of a side street. Long queues, but totally worth it. Hope that helps.0 -

Walthamstow Market is the cheapest one that I've found, you get a lot more in your pound bowls than other markets like Ridley Road. Not open on Mondays though.0

I'll echo this. Best general fruit/veg stalls used to be at the top - Hoe Street - end, but bear in mind things do move about depending on days of the week. For salad type stuff, herbs, chillis etc there used to be an amazing stall more or less opposite the main entrance to the shopping centre - his stuff was always superb quality and a really nice guy as well. The "bowl stalls" are usually to be found around the town square - there are usually a couple that set up alongside one another. The big "double stall" that sets up part way day often has an "extra" stall opposite with special offers (stuff they've bought for pennies and want top shift in bulk, essentially) and that's worth a look.
If you're heading there, then the best of the butchers used to be Parsons - near the Chequers pub (And if you're in that direction, take a second to look up at the top of the pub to see the "backwards Q"). There's also several superb Indian/ethnic supermarkets which are definitely worth a visit.
