Laundry gloop

Options
Are there any laundry gloop users around to offer some wisdom? :)

About 8 weeks ago due to finances being dire, running out of powder and having all the ingredients except borax (is that what it's called?) I made up a batch of gloop. For general things I found it to be fine, but having a toddler I was finding a lot of her things are often stained and I was having trouble getting them clean.

So I bit the bullet and bought some powder - which I am finding the smell of it horribly overpowering! Just in the house is enough to get up my nose! I've now done a load which I have had to put on the heated drier but am reluctant to put it on because of the smell!

What do other gloop users do? How do you get stained items clean? Would buying some borax make a big difference?

Thanks in advance!

I don't make gloop I make a powder using grated soap, borax ( got off eBay) and soda crystals. I found gloop took up too much space and split . Idon't really stain clothes so not a problem for me but I will use a little washing up liquid rubbed into marks if I spot them before washing.

    I use soap nuts.

  • I have used soapnuts in the past but thought with a nipper they wouldn't cut the mustard... Do you find they get out heavy(ish) soiling?

Interesting re powder. I think I am going to have to invest in borax. I can't bear this smell!
