My daughter is relocating to Kew/Richmond area soon and we shop in the cheaper supermarkets but was wondering are prices in general hiked up much in London?!

Our Aldi has the super six at 59p

Any ideas?!

The prices are fixed and national.

I am a regular traveller between London and South Essex, and have found no different. Although at must say that if I could afford to live in Kew or Richmond I probably wouldn't be bothered about the price of groceries.

Thank you, that's fab to know

It's her first job post grad so although she will be living there it will be a house share as she can't afford even a small flat so pennies will be watched carefully

What are her neighbours in Kew/Richmond going to say if your Daughter arrives home with an Aldi bag in her hand ? Don't they only go shopping in Harrods around there ?

They probably buy their 5p bags in Harrods then shop in Aldi ;)

I think you may be a bit behind the times. The middle classes have embraced Aldi with a vengeance. You only have to look at the cars in the car park.

I was standing by the entrance to my local Aldi and a brand new Tesla drove in!

I'm afraid she won't find a Lidl or Aldi in either Kew or Richmond. Kew only has an M & S. Richmond has a Tesco, Sainsburys and Waitrose. There's an Asda in Hounslow and I think maybe a Lidl - that's the nearest.

You're right, its in Feltham so not a million miles away - although there are loads of supermarkets offering distraction between!

OP the bonus of living in London is that there is more public transport. It does get very crowded (so don't wind up other passengers by shopping for the month and then trying to get home during rush hour or when you know things are busy, eg if a school is nearby it's likely to be busy from 2:30pm-4pm)

If you order bulk purchases with an online supermarket shop, then any add ons, visit a pound shop (again, London; lots of public transport), if you can try to find out any street markets nearby for fresh fruit and veg, I don't know that part of London that well but know it's very leafy. I would find it hard to believe there isn't at least one farmers type street market. Go at the end of the day for discounts.

I know Richmond/Kew is a wealthy area, but it's not too far from Hammersmith, Ealing and the further North you go in that part of London, the more shops you are likely to find. If you can try to find out when the buses are busier you know what times to avoid using the bus whilst carrying many heavy bags.

The answer is no, prices are not different in London, as was mentioned on your other thread.
