    Don't bother.

I wrote to NTL and also phoned NTL (after being in line for 2 hours) told them their services were crap. We had their TV service (which is the same as the channels on freeview, only they charge a monthly subscription for them) the TV kept losing signal, their broadband was slower than anything I have ever experienced (although they said they had "increased" the speeds of their services, yeah right!)
The only thing we had no problems with was their telephone, but due to the fact we had to move to another area, which wasn't covered by them we cancelled it..... Well kinda, I told them we are moving and they said "thanks for telling us" but as regular as clockwork every month the have continued to bill us.... I get my old mail forwarded on.
They have also now sent a very big bill saying that because I haven't paid this bill (for dates I haven't even been at the old property for) they have now put a default payment on my credit history.
Contacted them last month by phone again telling them I have moved etc etc, then they billed me again for this month.

    Thanks NTL........... (No-one Takes Longer)

Be aware of NTL, be VERY aware!

    samuela66,

There is also a similar thread of messages on the "VENT" board under the heading "NTL DIAL-UP INTERNET" with some others with similar problems with NTL.

Following is copy of a message I posted last week:

    QUOTE
I have also had several issues with NTL and poor service. Do NOT accept what these "bullies" say regarding inability to cancel your contract. Like any consumer you are covered by the Supply of Goods & Services Act which clearly gives you the right to cancel the contract if the goods supplied are not of satisfactory quality and fit for their purpose. In other words if the system does not work you have a clear right to cancel. What is more you are entitled to claim compensation. If you want to take this path, I would write to them by registered letter clearly pointing out that you are cancelling the contract. Tell them why and claim for any costs you have had (phone calls, etc.). Tell them that they can arrange a convenient time to you to remove the faulty goods at their cost. If they ignore you, you should take the matter to the small claims court (no need for a solicitor).

I hope this helps, but please don't give in to their "false" threats! You are more than protected by consumer law.

    UNQUOTE

    Hope it helps!

When I wrote to them I told them they could come and pick up the set top box & their modem at their cost.

They wrote back saying basically "keep it"

Anyone need a set top box? (casing slightly damaged, beat the hell out of it one night in sheer frustration) or you can have the modem, which is in perfect working order. Also got about 50 meters of their modem wire available too, I took it from the old property hoping to use it as a network cable for my computers only it's not cross over cable, bummer!

If not I will throw it all on e-bay for a couple of quid and try to make some money off the back of NTL, lol.

Most I got back in compensation was £25 off a bill and 3 months free broadband (make sure you cancel your Direct Debit tho as they still try to take the money!)

If you phone them to cancel you are put through to their best negotiator who tries everything to keep you as a customer.... Just don't accept the first offer, bleed him dry!   ;D

Be carefull selling NTL stuff on ebay, technically the equipment belongs to NTL so its ileagal to sell it. Have heard of a few people selling their NTL equipment then NTL knocking on their door a while after to ask for it back.

Yeah but I still have the letter giving me permisson to keep it, so I would of thought that means it's mine to sell?

    Not sure :-/

But thanks for the advice I will bear it in mind.
