This American television series is based on a series of books. There were 12 episodes although apparently it looks unlike there will be a second series as the Sci Fi Channel announced in August that it would not be renewed.
Harry Dresden (Blackthorne) is a professional wizard who often helps the police with cases involving unusual circumstances, but others seek him out as he is the only wizard listed in the phone book. Raised by his father, a stage magician, who tried to curb his powers, he has a long backstory regarding his uncle and a group called the high council. Harry is assisted, if that is the right word by a ghost called Hrothbert "Bob" of Bainbridge (Mann) who often resides in a skull, but who can try and work out complex magical matters.
The main recipinet of Dresden's help is Lt. Connie Murphy (Cruz) who often seeks out Harry's help with cases that are hard to solve and may be supernaturally related. Although a sceptic she realises that Harry does have insight. He certainly can help when she shows him a crime scene with a skinned woman and in a later episode a victim who has been scalped and has silver iodide in her lungs.
There are creatures of the night and literally crows who have nests. Expect the unexpected as Harry deals with some gruesome stuff, but there is also some humour, especially in a fertility clinic with a difference. His luck doesn't run well with the ladies in that he can't keep a romance going very long. It is off the wall, perhaps a reason for the shows cancellation, and it seems that innovative projects which deal with supernatural subjects (Dead Like Me, Tru Calling) just can't seem to gain the confidence of the studio execs.
