Retweeting and Bots

Hey guys.

I subscribe to a service called Buffer which means that I can schedule my tweets. I primarily use this for my blog as it makes it easier to schedule blog related tweets/retweets in advance.

I've noticed with Twitter competitions, that I have a bit more luck if I enter near the end of the competition. Would using Buffer to schedule these competition retweets for near the end of the competition period be considered as using a bot or cheating? I obviously don't want to do anything dishonest and I've never cheated in my life. I'm such a worrier and I'd hate for people to think that I'm entering dishonestly.

Thank you in advance.

Depends on the T&C's (if any) it presumably would count as an automated entry but unless it looks different to a manual tweet how would anyone know?

It doesn't really look any different from a manual tweet at all. The service just tweets for you instead of you having to be at your laptop at the set time you want something to be tweeted.

I don't think it comes under bot territory as I still find all the competitions on here and enter that way and don't use a program to retweet every single thing that mentions a competition, but alas, I'm still not sure what other compers would think.

I manually tweet everything but collate via an Api which is twitter permitted.

If I used anything to auto tweet I know my acct would be filtered, for that reason I personally would never risk it as I win a heap on twitter.

It will only be seen if anyone looks under your twitter, which most have no idea about.

Oh and if someone sticks you into tweetdeck it can show the origin.

  • LadyMorticia - sounds fine to me :) I use a similar tool for scheduling social media posts at work, and I use that to send out relevant tweets for each time zone. I don't see this as cheating the system at all - you could decide to manually post at the time you schedule your tweet for, but this just makes it a lot more convenient for you!
