I'm currently on the phone to Tesco's insurance..I don't want to renew the policy (quote £100 more than last year!!). I have paid all monthly premiums, last dd paid yesterday, so the policy is paid in full.

Car failed it's MOT so is no longer mine and now they are saying that, despite 20 days left and all payments recieved over the whole year that I will have to pay a £60 cancellation fee as I no longer have the car....please can someone give me words of wisdom to get them to drop this ridiculous charge?!

The car failed it's MOT, would have cost more than the car was worth to fix so gave it to next door's son as he is a budding mechanic.

I've told them I'm not paying for them to cancel a policy that has been paid in full and has 20 days left on it. Lesson learned about being honest!

Is there some sort of governing body I can lodge a complaint with? It's bloody disgraceful.

    Not sure to be honest.

You should just of let the policy expire as these companies love to charge for every little thing.

Make sure they can't debt your account.

It won't appear on your credit file, and will quickly be forgotten.

But that's the thing sourcrates, I phoned to tell them I wasn't renewing. My policy IS up. And paid for. The cancellation fee is 3x the monthly premium and there is less than 3 weeks left. Grrr.
  • If you have a good relationship with the neighbour, after all you did give them a car, you could explain to them what has happened and give them the chance to be generous and pay towards it. If i was your neighbour, I would hate for your generosity to cost you money.

Complaints about your car insurer can be escalated to the Financial Ombudsman if the insurer doesn't deal with the matter to your satisfaction. There is also the Resolver complaints tool built into this site which can keep a log of any email/letters etc. you have sent and received:
