OS Daily Monday 26 September 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, cloudy, overcast and air seems much cooler.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, no college today but I have some chores for him to do.

Lunch yesterday was the expensive half leg of lamb, but it was delicious and no meat saved unfortunately, once it had cooked there wasn't really enough to keep, served it with roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy, all eaten and enjoyed. Dinner tonight will be smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in a creme fraiche sauce.

Work Saturday was quiet then went busy so no idea what sort of day we'll get today, most possibly quiet start then busy, we'll see.

Yesterday was a quiet day, just had a bit of a lie-in, then prepped lunch, sorted pack ups etc, just chilled and had a sleep on the sofa in the afternoon, still went to bed at 11pm - which is early for me, and slept through until DH was up and about ready to go out the door, feel better this morning, so obviously needed it.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning everyone and thank you for the thread nmlc.

It is getting light here but today's forecast isn't great. I'm indoors at the office all day though. In fact I really should get a wiggle on so that I can start being indoors there!

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.

    Morning everyone.

The sky is streaked with pink and red so I'm sure more rain is coming. At least the fog has lifted.

Yesterday I got stuck into scanning and emailing. I tried out my new portable scanner first and then used the normal flatbed one. The new one needs a bit more practice to get the edges right, too much table on the right hand side.

No idea what lies for me today. I have to visit someone in town and take rubbish to the tip so will get that done before noon. There's plenty of food in the fridge as I got an M&S £10.00 deal on the way home on Saturday.

Whatever you get up to I hope you have a good Monday. Hugs to those needing them.

    Morning :hello:

The owner appeared just after 9am yesterday and set about fixing the roof. I thought he was just going to plug the gap(s) but he removed quite a bit, faffed with some mixture or other and put new wood on. The place needs new plumbing and they need to employ a new cleaner, lol. Even if they did those things, I wouldn't come back because of the kitchen size, even making a cuppa seems like hard work. Shame, because it's in a great location for us and with a bit of thought it could be perfect. Actually I've already replanned it in my head :D

Quite a few of the beaches have changed the rules on allowing dogs, we turned up to a couple only to find new signs with new times. Trouble is, none of the websites have updated the info. Even a few local people didn't know and they were miffed. By the time you see the sign, you've already paid a couple of quid for parking and you have nowhere to go so you just turn around and leave straight away. You can't pass your parking ticket to someone else because it has your reg number on it. Found two nearby beaches though, so we have somewhere to let off steam :D

I thought I should make an effort with food so I made a cottage pie. It was too much hard work and quite stressful, I'm going to live on pizza, sandwiches and noodles for the rest of the week :D

    Morning all,

Bit gloomy here this morning and seems very much cooler.

Went to see a car yesterday and I must say it was very nice indeed, the car salesman was really a bit rubbish though and really had no idea what he was talking about, I was ready to order a car and put a deposit down but he really was spectacularly unknowledgeable about his product so I am going to order it online myself as he could not do me any deals anyway.

Off to work for me today and the first day of an 7 day shift so a long week which I am not looking forward to much ! Got some breaded chicken pieces for dinner tonight, dd is off today so can do something to go with them.

Her young man is still here but going today he really is a very nice young chap.

Tonight I need to post an ebay parcel and pick up a prescription and get some cash out for the workmen doing the log burner Wednesday.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Hilstep hugs to you xx

Morning, thanks for the thread nmlc x

tru - such a shame about the cottage and that some beaches have these new restrictions :( I hope you manage to enjoy the rest of your holiday x

Two late nights in a row as DS1 finished work at the hotel at 11pm both nights. It's on a bus route of sorts, but I would rather we pick him up until he can drive himself. He had traveller wedding on Saturday and a 60th birthday yesterday. He was given a £10 tip by one of the guests so he is well chuffed as payday isn't until Friday.

Today I'm at the church and I'm dreading it. I'm due a visit this week, so everything is getting to me. Definitely time for a change. Hopefully will hear about the jobs at some stage - although the school admin one was a deafening silence - probably had someone lined up for it anyway, hey ho.

Washing is on a quick cycle, so will hang it out before I go. Dinner tonight is marinated pork steaks from Asda with savoury rice and veg.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone,

Girls are walked and sitting here with a cuppa, dry but as RR said it's definitely cooler, heating hasn't been on yet so am still holding out and making do with warmer clothes!

Mum was in good spirits yesterday but being the weekend nothing had happened in the way of being moved etc, fingers crossed we hear something today.
We are going over to her bungalow this afternoon to check things over and pick up some hearing aid batteries etc, it's 3 weeks today since she went in, seems longer tbh.

Other than that the bedding and towels need changing, might have to put a brushed cotton bottom sheet on just to cosy things up a tad :)
FIngers crossed for you on the job front Coxy x
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

I can understand to a certain extent about dog-friendly beaches ,but when we were on the IoW last month the beach at Sandown near to the pier and town was virtually empty, and the other end up by the zoo at Yaverland was packed.

Sandown beach is very pretty and the tide washes it every day .The dog -free beach being so empty meant that the families with dogs crowded together at one end, and didn't bother to go into the town or on the pier and spend their holiday cash.

Last month being a blistering hot one meant that the town itself lost untold amounts of holiday cash from families who just stayed at the almost empty of shops end of the beach

Mind you the little ice-cream cafe place did a roaring trade and good luck to them.I think the town councillors have missed out this year.We did try to get on to Shanklin beach, but so little parking up by the dog-friendly end of the beach we gave up and went to Yaverland (Sandown )

My DD is a responsible dog owner of two dogs and even on the beach with the boys she makes sure her dogs behave. No way were we going to go out for the day and leave the dogs behind on their own in our rented house anyway. We even have a small pop-up tent if the weather is too warm for them to shelter in :):):)

Tru your holiday place sounds like a nightmare ,we once had a place like that in Cornwall and we swore we would never return to that county again . We stick to our beloved IoW and already we are booked up for next August :) and DD has booked us all a weekend away at the end of November to celebrate my son-in-laws birthday, lots of the beaches will be dog-friendly by then :):):)

Well another week ahead and almost the end of September already the time certainly seems to be flying by atm.

Today I have my oldest friend coming down for the day from Dartford and I have prepped lunch already and made a creme caramel for pudding.
<<hugs for those in need >.
Have a good Monday chums what ever you are doing

  • Morning All

The sky is looking a bit mixed today, the forecast is for sunshine and I've put a wash on, we'll see! I have the day off and it feels like 2 sundays in a row.

Children's friend coming today to get the 'stuff' I've been storing for her, a great big pile of it in the conservatory. She has invited me to lunch so there is an up side. Quite looking forward to seeing her new house, hope she keeps it in better order than the flat she moved from.

Had a good few hours with DD yesterday, we made pici pasta which was very simple and tasty but could probably have done with being a bit thinner. Went looking for work trousers but couldn't find any, tried on-line too but everywhere is sold out.

tru - so sorry your holiday home is a bit of a nightmare, you must feel like you have wasted your money.

Have a good Monday, take care. XX
  • Morning chums,

Overcast here in Glasgow at the minute. Just as I went to bed last night the rain was pounding off the window - one of my favourite noises.

Had a terrific weekend, although a bit 'spendy'. My GF and I had a nice night out on Saturday for a lovely meal to celebrate my new job. The small restaurant, which must've had around 13 tables, is ranked in the top 5 on TripAdvisor and it was truly delish.

I started my clear out using the KonMarie method yesterday. I ran out of time and I had already 3 bin bags of clothes to go out! Couldn't believe I even had that many clothes. I'll do the remaining items on Wednesday.

It's going to be a quiet day today in work however since I've came in I've got 12 emails, so better dash.

    Have a lovely Monday everyone.
