Best place to buy nuts

Hi guys,

I buy nuts for my smoothies. I used to them from Holland & Barrett but then realized how I was paying way over the odds and started getting them from a cash and carry that was up the road from me. Since moving however, there are no local shops that sell decent size packages for a reasonable price.

Any tips?

  • More information would be good.
Put up a list of nuts you use and people will be able to help out.

Lidl sell walnuts, mixed nuts and pecans that are comparatively reasonably priced.

I find that "Costco" are the cheapest in my area. (if you are a member)
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • Check out shops catering to the Indian community? Or even Morrisons in culturally varied areas? As kilo sacks of nuts are not uncommon (almonds & cashews, certainly).
    Enjoy!

wouldn't advise what the previous message said. Nuts in these vast quantities are often very low quality. In the end you get what you pay for

I get my nuts from Aldi. Not sure if they are the cheapest, but they are not as dear as the supermarkets or H & B. My other food doesn't cost a lot anyway because I don't eat meat or fish, so I reckon my nuts are worth it. I smash them up in my mini chopper every morning and add them to my bran flakes and fruit.

  • I get nuts from Aldi too.
  • Lidl nuts are lovely, I buy lots of them. I think their Alesto brand walnuts are the best I've tasted! I buy Alesto unsalted cashews as well, and loose (slightly salted) pistachio nuts, all seem excellent quality.

And also, they often aren't all that cheap.

Only buy in the quantity you can reasonably consume, as the quality can deteriorate fast unless stored frozen. There's little worse than a rancid walnut.
