Speed Typing

I want to apply for some jobs which require typing speeds of 65wpm. I'm out of practise and the speed tests that I've done online are showing 50 - 55 wpm.
I've done lots of practice but I'm not improving. Been looking at Pitman Typaz and Souters speed typing courses and wonder if anyone else has been in the same position and if they've done these courses. They are supposed to help with speed and accuracy for experienced typists as well as novices.
Typaz is about £250 and Souters is £99.
I want to go to a secretarial/office agency shortly. What do people think?
Or can anyone recommend online and preferably free? The ones I've googled haven't helped much.

My advise is to just keep practising. I used to be a transcriber in the TV world and my accuracy and speed improved over time. It takes a while to improve your speed and accuracy.
Are the typing speeds one where you have to type from reading? Can you try and type from audio or video instead, even if you don't type all the words you hear. Just to practise you typing and accuracy.0 -
I agree - once you know where each finger goes on the keyboard, speed comes (or returns) with practice.
More and more managers are now doing a lot of their own typing anyway, so I would have thought your current speeds would be adequate for many secretarial roles (whether agencies would agree with me is another matter of course).
I do a lot of training with secretaries and most say they now spend most of their time on admin, travel arrangements and diary planning, rather than lots of document typing.0
