Billy's Bothy Ashbourne - WARNING

We are a group of retired friends who recently spent a short walking holiday in Ashbourne Derbyshire. We stayed at Billy's Bothy DE6 1JQ from Monday 12th to Friday 16th September. We had a thoroughly great time which was then soured on our return home by the owners' refusal to return our deposit of £250 because she said we left a bathroom with faeces on the floor and provided pictures to prove her point. This of course we emphatically deny - who in their right mind would do such a thing? My friend who booked the holiday is distraught.
Does anybody know what we can do about this? I suppose with hindsight one of us should have waited for the owner to inspect the premises and collected our deposit.
We have stayed in self catering accommodation for a number of years now and never experienced anything like this.

  • We now have our deposit back in full. After contacting Trading Standards they advised - "always ask for an exit inspection and if this is not forthcoming – video the entire property! "
Tried to write a review on Trip Advisor to warn others but the property is not listed.

Or do your due diligence - I would have been nervous about not seeing any TA reviews - I have only been going a year and already had 8 TA reviews.

Our place is in the Loire Valley and my parents do the check out - but rarely when the departing guests are there .... it is just not practical ... if guests are worried, then I do agree they should take photos etc for their own security. Guests have left the gite in a mess, but I have always refunded the security bond in full - I would only keep it if they broke the TV or something.

Glad to see you got you money back.

    Thanks Mark
