Ok, Im hoping you guys can give me constructive advice on this one.
5.5 years ago, i took out a loan with Provident (£400). I made regular payments. Their doorstop collection rep came regularly. I then moved to a different town, telling provident both by phone and letter my new address.
I have moved twice since taking the loan out at my old property, but I let them know on both occasions by new contact details. However, no rep has called to collect payments in *(getting on for 5 years)...despite the fact i had rung them on numerous occasions to ask why (i was told no reps were employed in my area at one time)..the last time I heard from them was when I was living at my previous house to my present one..when the area manager came out to assure me a new rep would be calling round regularly from then on.
That was nearly 5 years ago....
anyway, out of the blue, I get a letter from buchanan Clarke and wells yesterday saying I owe provident nearly a grand and there is no reason why this account shouldn't have been cleared (apart from the fact of all of the above)
So,before I reply to buchanan, Im asking for any constructive advice upon what my next step should be. I am not or have ever denied, that I owe provident money, but to my belief,I have always kept my side of the agreement, on the very few occasions they did turn up to collect payment, they got it (in the early days of the loan).
I have always givin them my forwarding address (i have moved twice since taking the loan out...in the same county...just different village..about 5 miles away from my old property)
I believe it is not my fault that they haven't kept to their agreement of collecting payments from someone who wanted to keep regular payments up to date.
Any advice please, would be gratefully recieved
thanks...snails

So all the payments you have not made - you now have the cash to pay because you have put it to one side is that right?
If not you haven't a leg to stand on.0 -
Go to your local cab for advice before replying would be the best thing0

was there no other way you could have paid them ie phone/send a cheque?:rolleyes:0

think i'd ask for BCW to provide the statutory info under the consumer credit act, send them a £1 postal order asking for true signed copy of a credit agreement before you do anything else
