Cider gift basket

My sisters fiance loves cider so am going to base his christmas gift basket around this. Was thinking of putting in a bottle of cider and glass and a few of his favourite nibbles - anymore ideas?

  • Have a look on Amazon for 'Make your own Cider' books - I've just seen one that gives tips on tasting and telling difference between the apple varieties for $4 (+$4 shipping) Or the same book on Amazon.co.uk for £7.69 + shipping, but does qualify for the super saver free delivery if you spend over £15

Maybe a few different bottles of different sorts of cider, perhaps local or regional ones? I did a real ale hamper for my dad a few years ago and just had a look in my local wine merchants - loads of different sorts and easy to fill the basket with 500ml bottles (filled basket with hay, tied a few dried hops round it, nestled in bottles, wrapped in cellophane).

You could also look for apple related food products - maybe spiced apple chutneys or cider vinegar.

The only think about the amazon link correct me if i am wrong is that its american cider is usually non alcoholic and totally different.

I remember being shocked to see bear in the big blue house drinking cider with his little pals lol

Just to add my thoughts but I wouldn't recommend Savanna Dry. I had it the other day and it tasted a bit strange. Not like proper cider. Also ingredients say it is cider with apple juice and sugar added.

Maybe you could add in some pear or fruit flavour ciders for a bit of variety. Perhaps you could look into tickets to a cider producers and have a trip to see it being made?
  • OMG :rotfl:I can't get that song out of my head since I read your post. You know... by the Wurzels. I am a cider drinker I drinks it all of the time.....

    Hi,
Found this recipe for mulled cider. Thought you could wrap the spices in muslin, with instruction label and add to your basket.

    Hot Mulled Cider

    1/2 cup Brown sugar
    1 dash Salt
    2 quarts Cider
    1 teaspoon Whole allspice
    1 teaspoon Whole cloves
    1 three-inch stick cinnamon
    1 dash Nutmeg

Combine sugar, salt, and cider. Tie spices in cheese cloth. Add to cider. Slowly bring to a boil. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Remove spices. Serve hot with orange slice floaters and cinnamon stick.
