Fixed rate, fees and mortgage lenders...?

Hi there.

I've been with Direct Line for 2 years with a fixed rate mortgage (4.69%). I am now looking to remortgage, but I am having problems because I live above a hairdressers. There are only a few lenders that are happy with this  The best a mortgage broker can find is 6.4% with Alliance and Leicester. Is this good?

I have read a lot on this forum about exit fees, but does this mean I will still have to pay mine with Direct Line? The contract showed £295 - but I've seen people claiming back these amounts. Can I contest this fee?

To remortgage, how much am I likely to spend (solicitor's fees, expensive valuation fees etc. etc.)?

Very confused.

Jessica.

No-one has been claiming the fee back in full. Only the difference, if there is one. your contract shows £295 and if that is what they are charging now, then that is what you need to pay.

    Depends on the deal.
