Trying to settle an argument, we where chatting and somehow got talking about the police wearing CCTV that records and is linked to the police station, I'm saying they've only being doing it 2-3 years and friend says they've big doing it for 10-15 years.

On the basis of this BBC article, it would appear that only recently is the answer. Depends where in the country you are though.

The first time I recall them being used was back in the early 2000s by police in Aberdeen. It was only a limited number on a trial basis and it was cut short by a wave of highly negative publicity.

They didn't return to it again till a couple of years ago and a lot more forces seemed interested by then.
