Online grocery shoppers - do you buy fresh foods online

I usually just buy things like cat food and litter, cleaning products, tins etc online and buy fresh veg, meat and fish in the shops but I would like to buy this stuff online too to save carrying as I live on my own and don't drive. However, I am wary of it not been good quality, have read online reviews about it not being fresh or poor quality. Don't know what to do.

Hi Fusspot, we don't have home delivery, but I do use click and collect when i'm near the city, and i haven't found a problem with fresh food. There is a bit, certainly on the tesco website, where you can specify individual whether you like ripe or soft bananas, big or small apples, that kind of thing, and if you look at your shopping as it's being unpacked by the delivery guy you can send back anything that is not up to standard.0

Hi
I shop online as I find it helps me to budget better, I do buy fresh food, with meat I'm happy to buy chicken breasts, thighs, chops etc. I prefer to buy a whole joint in store though as I like to see it, whole chicken is okay though. I do buy veg and fruit as well which has been fine. I have found in my area Mr T is excellent, items have nice long dates and always fresh. Asda is terrible, last shop I had damaged items, very short shelf life and some expiring the day they arrived, shocking. So I guess it depends a lot on the packers and your area?'You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose' - Dr Suess

Definitely depends on your area and store. Where I am now (also Tesco) is excellent, I order almost all fresh items and am happy with what I receive. Only exceptions are bananas and steak, but they are the two items I am fussiest with.
You can hand back any items that aren't as you would like to the driver and they'll take it off the bill, so no harm in ordering a few fresh things to see how they do. They should arrive in separate bags/crates to the cupboard/household items so you can quickly inspect them without having to dig through your whole order.0
