Nitty Gritty Nit comb

Just thought I would let you know - when my daughter had trouble with nits I tried all the expensive chemicals and found they did not work very well. The best way to get rid of nits (for us anyway) is to wash to hair, dry it enough to stop it dripping (no more), then lather it in conditioner and comb very well with a fine comb (preferably a nit comb!!). I did this every two or three days for a couple of weeks and it worked. Hard work yes, but worth it.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

They definately do still give them out as I got mine from Doctor on Saturday, they were really pleased to know about it - and I got the impression that the receptionist would be telling more people about it! - you need to tell them the full details of the nitty comb so they can find it to write out the prescription. I'm going to tell my daughters school about this too - as there is usually a nationwide nit peak in about a weeks time (due to children returning from holidays - often haven't been checked as thoroughly...a few weeks into term is sufficient to spread around the school!)0

i only found out that these combs are available on perscription after i bought one:mad: and visited their website , i downloaded the information poster and gave it to my sons school and told the school secretary that they are free by perscription and she said she will be including it in our next school newsletter ,so at least someone else can save some money:j
and the comb is excellent and works a treatyou spend the first years of your childs life encouraging them to walk and talk and then spend the next 15 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

Hi all - the Bug Buster kit of combs is also available on NHS prescription, or £5.95 plus p&p. I have used this on my 4 year old daughter who got nits after 2 days at primary school. I had previously used the cheap white two-sided plastic nit comb and found nothing, but pulled out dozens with this bright yellow comb! also gives you really good advice on life cycles etc so you know how to crack the problem. Sadly I too bought the kit before noticing you could get it on prescription!

"As with treatments which are licensed medicines, the Bug Buster Kit is available on NHS prescription, free for children, and can be purchased or ordered in a pharmacy (pip-code 233-1783)"0 -
hi all
i purchased nitty gritty comb over a year ago now. At the time i downloaded the the form but my gp had no details of this and said they could not provide this although they thought it sounded a good idea.
I went to a local chemist and they did make enquiries but i ended up having to pay for the comb. I think it was on offer at £6.99 so not too bad.
My son has only had headlice about twice and since i started using the comb last summer we have not had any headlice at all. I use the comb twice a week on him it has been the best thing ever.
bye for now0
