Name on Mortgage

My husband passed away a couple of years ago and his name was the only one on the mortgage. To date I have been able to continue paying the mortgage as the executor if his estate but can I simply take over the mortgage and have it put in my name?

Was there any life insurance ? Anyway, no you cannot, the mortage lender would need to do checks to see if you passed affordability checks for a new mortgage (and affordability checks are not the same as meaning, can you afford it, it may be you can afford it since you've been paying for two years, but still fail affordability.

Is the lender aware that your husband has passed away? Being an executor comes with personal legal responsibilities and liabilities.
