I'm an operations manager at a delivery company and I hate it with a passion and I kind of ended up in it by accident and I want out but I don't know how & I feel I will look stupid if I go down the stress/depression route but that is generally how the job makes me feel it's had a huge impact on my mental state. What do I do? I have spoken to senior managers about not enjoying the role but they don't seem to get how much it's affecting me & they just think it's me moaning again.

But what do you expect your managers to do? This is your job. They expect you to do your job. I'm afraid that your choices are to get another job, or to resign. I get having a job you hate. But that isn't your employers problem, it is yours. If you go down the "stress/depression route" that won't change the facts. Your employer is under no obligation to find you another job. And if you think that having a job you don't like is depressing, I strongly suggest you don't try unemployment, because that isn't a bundle of laughs either. The solution is in your hands - get another job.0

What do you expect to happen if you "go down the stress/depression route"? You might get a doctor to sign you off for a period but the same job with the same stresses will still be there when you return. Your employer might be able to make some adjustments to make it easier but what do you expect them to be able to do, maybe fewer hours or different hours? But they are not obliged to make changes and will any changes actually change the nature of the job that you dislike so much?
You say you "want out", have you started looking for other jobs? If not why not?loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
sangie, as usual is right.
You need to make the changes yourself, ie find another job. I own a delivery company and it is without doubt one of the most stressful occupations going. Personally I thrive on it mostly, but it isn't for everyone. I can't imagine either what your boss could do to make it different unless it's a plain case of understaffing and you need a helper.0 -
Thanks for the comments that's why I put it out there. As I said I got the role through accident more than anything I was at the level below opps managers however the company is going through a difficult period and made the opps managers redundant and basically I'm doing their role for no extra money or the title. They have cut back so far that I'm out on the road at least twice a week covering rounds that I don't know which can take me 12-14 hours to do. I then come in to !!!!!! emails from management wanting to know why X,Y & Z haven't been done and drivers hanging around to confront me why I'm not doing anything to help them & the fact their rounds are taking them over their hours. I have even been doing extra days for no extra money to try and get on top of everything but enough is enough now it's a horrible atmosphere I work in no one is listening. My main concern is if anything seriously goes wrong for whatever reason I could be in the dock for it. It's not what I signed up for they can't have it both ways I'm either an opps manager or a delivery driver I'd happily go back to being a delivery driver because the extra money really isn't worth it. And yes I have been looking for other work however I find it a kick in the teeth that I have worked hard to get this far however the job is now that impossible I feel I can't continue if I was still in my previous role I could and it's not just me everyone at all the other depots feel exactly the same.0

Unfortunately, you aren't going to get anything from management, and you know that. So there really isn't a choice. No it isn't fair. But a lot isn't. And the only thing you can do is to get out of there.0

That's what I'm hoping to do but also not that easy once you start earning X amount and your mortgage & everything is based around it it's hard to find a job on the same money.Stuck between a rock & a hard place at the minute I'm sure I'm not the only one just wanted to put it out there to see if there was any advice and it has all been helpful I really do need to up the job search.0

I take it that you aren't the TM? You aren't responsible for any in scope vehicles and it's only vans. If you are a TM with a CPC, the Company is failing in their duty to give you enough time to perform your legal duties.
You could try telling them you want to go back to being a driver and see if you can cut your cloth accordingly until something better turns up. otherwise you are stuck.
Good luck.0 -
No I'm not the TM and yeah I'm going back on Monday to ask to step down to either my old position as a supervisor or as a driver they are losing so many staff & are having trouble replacing them that I think they will have to consider it.0
