    Do these averages mean much as there will be huge variations across the country.

    Welsh asking prices fell by 2% - London went up 2%. In London asking prices rose 9% in Westminster and fell 6% in Enfield.

    In the last year asking prices have fallen 12% in Kensington and Chelsea and risen 11% in Barking and Dagenham - a statistic which sums up the London housing market. When you need to earn £100k to be able to buy a house in Dagenham something is seriously dysfunctional.

    That assumes you pay much attention to Rightmove asking prices!

    Surely though the only asking prices that matter are those in Wood Green.

    I disagree - the asking prices in Aberdeen are hugely important.
