Paternity leave

Hi all just wondering if anyone would be able to give me some help or advice.
I'v been Employed for 7 years full time. I had a discussion with my boss the other day about paternity leave as me and my wife were thinking of starting a family next year to be told that we don't do paternity leave as we are a small business. Iv checked my contact of employement and it says nothing about paternity leave. There is 9 employees excluding the owners. From the research iv done online I'm legally I can take paternity leave. Any help advice would be appreciated.

I think legally you are entitled to 1/2 weeks paid paternity leave if not doing shared parental leave and you earn over £112 a week.
He may mean they only pay the statutory paternity and don't offer anything additional
How much paternity have you asked for?0 -
"Your employer must tell you within 28 days if you don’t qualify and why using form SPP1."
Has he?0 -

Yes it is! So there really isn't much advice to give on a situation that hasn't arisen. If the employer is really that opposed to family rights, then the OP may find that their job has gone long before they can have that conversation. I think I might suggest forgetting ever having had the conversation unless and until it became a reality!0

Does your employer realise that they can reclaim the pay? Of course that doesn't help with running their business with a temp rather than an experienced member of staff.

Holiday pay, loss of productivity, cost of advertising etc...
But hey ho..part of running a business.
And Sangie is right OP.....do not bring this up again until you need to actually use it!Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

There are no agencies that can provide staff for what we do and it takes around 3 months to get a driver to the required standard.0
