  • repatriated - I really like that - Think it's just dawned on me that my OH is very good at repatriating things from my home to his..or nest 1 or nest 2 as he likes to call them :)

Eeek ! you have just reminded me of another £2.60 spend out which was on a cold hot chocolate. Not very MSE but got up at 4 and left early that morning.

Do keep looking after you especially with those early starts, it doesn't really even seem to get light until 7.30am ish at the moment:eek:

I like the sound of nests. :)

I'm trying to get to bed early (hence hot chocolate) even though I'm a night owl by nature. I think the lack of natural light will get to me though as it's dark in both directions to and from work and whilst there is a small window in the office it only looks onto an internal courtyard. Much better than nothing, mind.

Not five minutes after that post did my bike helmet break. Cue speed-walk to work. Thankfully I wasn't especially late.

Home to a pile of post - including some from two different banks, and NS&I, who clearly did receive my paperwork. Annoyingly I've been sent a password but not a username so I'll just have to wait and see if it shows up.

Time for some dinner and a bit more tidying... I'm already tired and I'll need too get up even earlier tomorrow to walk to work for my early start :(

I've been AWOL for a little while with Dad visiting, busy at work, and OH here.

The weekend was phenomenally speedy - my dad earns a lot more than me (unsurprisingly) but now I'm earning I need to stick my hand in my pocket and pay my way. I bought us and OH lunch out that totalled £50 - which isn't too bad but is hardly MSE. It's not as much as my dad spent on stuff for us to enjoy in. We went to a lovely pub (at a local brewery) - also expensive. The bike helmet issue described above was also a major expense. I found one I liked that was quite high spec (given that I cycle on roads with traffic I'm not prepared to cut any corners in this regard) but they didn't have it in my size in store - so I ordered it online £20 cheaper with cash back :D . I also bought a helmet mounted light which has been on my wish list for a while. Total was still nearly £70

I'm really enjoying it in my new department at work and one of my bosses said I'd taken to it like a duck to water - so I was very pleased indeed. Work's been good for NSDs thankfully :)

Banking/money wise - NS&I did send me a username and my savings certificate is currently worth about £10 more than I thought which is a pleasant surprise :) . My spare current account switched to FD without incident.

The biggest news though is that OH will be moving in permanently from July. He has permission from his PhD supervisor to live this far away from uni and drop in a couple of times a week. As well as being something we've both wanted for ages this will save us both a significant amount of money.

Sam: re hot chocolate - we bought chocolate baileys (in a gold bottle) on offer and that goes very well indeed with hot chocolate :D

Overall, I'm just keeping on keeping on even if I have gone a bit quiet :)

  • Chocolate baileys :j sounds yum!

Been really rubbish at tracking spends so that's gone out the window for now!

Great news RE: OH, will save you both some time and travel too :)

Glad to hear you've settled in well in the new department.

On my last night shift and it's been all quiet on the MSE front. Managed not to spend anything - easy when you are asleep all day. I did buy some shoes the night before my first night shift - but they were reduced from £70 to £15 and will be perfect for work. :)

Just checked my bank account and I wasn't expecting any movement but I've been billed for my grandparents' gifts - which I ordered ages ago and never noticed hadn't been billed. I'm a bit  as I'm now £60 worse off than I thought as I'd thought that money had already gone out. Ah well.

I'm glad payday is on Thursday although I'm well in the black and should remain so. It does make January an extremely long month.

I'm off to see my OH's family tomorrow as I'm not working again until the Christmas weekend. I think I've been so busy at work that it's just crept up on me!

Early Christmas payday today - so I should be :D but it's a bit more like  . Essentially they have managed to mess up the pay for about 75 of us who are transitioning to a new pay structure- and we have each been underpaid by £500-1000 - I reckon I've personally been underpaid by the lower end of that - but as I'm on annual leave I haven't seen my payslip. I did get paid today - and was in the black before then so I have managed a full month without going back into that overdraft. We have all been promised the rest of our pay by the end of December so we shall see...

Otherwise, I'm having a nice relaxing few days with the OH's family. We went out to Lincoln for the day on Tuesday which was lovely and bought some reduced Christmas decorations (the best buy was £16 baubles reduced to £2!) - but a lot of places were completely stripped bare.

I'm enjoying being off for a few days and have spent quite a bit but have stayed within my bank balance so I'm not being too hard on myself!

    Merry Christmas MSE-ers :)

  • Oh how shocking about the pay - yes don't stress it I'm sure they will sort this as soon as possible. Hurrah about being and staying in the black. Agree with you that January going to be loooong so suggest we enjoy the time while we can . Hope you are having a wonderful time with OH and hope you get spoilt rotten at XMAS! :happyhear2 days to go!
