Hi,
I am in the process of offering F&F to all my creditors but I have a 6 year old debt with marbles that I have been regularly paying through a stepchange dmp. The thing is, they have never applied a default and all my defaults have now dropped off thankfully. I am wondering if I ask them to settle with a part payment (if they agree) and they mark my file as settled, will this be on my credit file for a further 6 years? Would I be better to pay them in full and avoid the risk? It is a fairly small balance of £700 but I could really do with spreading that money over my other debts.
Not sure what to do, could anyone offer any advice please?
thank you x

Hi,
What information have they been recording on your credit file up to now ?
If its not been defaulted, has it been marked late payment, or up to date ?
Weather you settle in full or part, the account should be closed, marked as either settled or partially settled, then it should move to the closed accounts section of your file.
I am unsure how long closed accounts show on your file for, but the further back in time negative information is, the less effect it will have on you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi,
thank you for your reply. I think that it was showing as up to date the last time I checked. I can't see it on the credit file now as it's been 6 years. I was worried that they might choose to default me now which would be a shame after all this time.0 -

Oh, so if its not showing on your credit file any longer, you have nothing to worry about,
It cant be resurrected once its fallen off, as far as I am aware.
Are you certain it was never defaulted ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I am certain a default was never applied. So they can't issue a default after 6 years? I thought they could default you at any point in time, whilst you owe the money.
They were the only creditior that didn't default me.
I was going to sent them a cca request, would I be pushing my luck there?0 -

No it won't change anything by doing that, it's your right under the consumer credit act to make an information request whenever you like.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Entries are removed six years after they are defaulted or settled, whichever happens sooner.
My guess is that this one was defaulted 6 years ago and therefore has dropped off.
You can do a cca request at any time (not if you have paid your debt in full, or if your lender has taken court action), and if you are thinking of offering a F&F, it can only strengthen your hand0 -
It has never been defaulted. I have kept all the paperwork and the default was not on my credit file.0

Did you check all three CRA`s though ?
If it hasn't been defaulted, or settled, then it should in theory still show on your file.
However, having said that, I have had one account disappear completely from my credit files, it still had a balance of £50 left to pay, but the DCA that bought it simply stopped reporting on it and removed it from my file completely, very bizarre, and if you ask anyone, they say that should not happen, but it did !!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hmm...interesting!
I checked Experian and Equifax and have just joined check my file to have another look. I couldn't see it. I'm going to just send a full and final and see what happens. I'll not sent the cca. I'd rather it just be gone.0 -

Look on Noddle (callcredit).
Its free to sign up to and use, that is the most frequently used CRA.
