Applying for mortgage as a couple, one employed, one a student

Dear helpful people of MSE forums,
My partner and I would like to know if, when applying for a mortgage, we would be allowed to borrow what we need. I am employed full time, and my partner can match this with what she receives by entitlements. We have a healthy 40% deposit to put down on the house we are interested in.
Main question is, will mortgage lenders lend based solely on my income, or what both our incomes are?
Regards,
