Can I claim a refund on my mortgage protection payments

I received a letter at the beginning of August telling me that due to the reduction in interest rates, my mortgage protection payments (with Santander) would be reduced.
I presume that this is because the amount they have to cover is lower.
If this is the case, then why would this not have happened for each and every decrease in the interest rates over the past few years.
Is there a case now that I should be looking to get a refund from them?
Advice will be appreciated.

Were you on a fixed rate at the time of the previous reductions in the base rate?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
