This is the diet where you fast for two days per week and then eat what you want the rest of the time. Its supposed to be good for your health aswell as helping to lose weight. I am trying it but finding it very difficult to stick to just 500 calories on the fast days and I feel out of focus when I'm at work. My friend does it and its really working for her.

There are lots of threads on this kind of thing on the Health and Beauty section, if you want to hear more about how people get on with the 5:2 diet.0

I have tried it but simply can't get on with. I get too hungry and dizzy so find it best to just eat a little less every day instead, works out the same in the end me thinks.0

I've done it successfully in the past - but no, you can't eat whatever you want the rest of the time.0

According to Michael Mosley who came up with the diet, you CAN eat what you like the other 5 days. Didnt do much for me, when I want a quick fix, his Blood Sugar, diet, I lost 2kg in first 3 days, 2kg in a week. I wont say its easy.0

I tried it and it worked for me. Over the last 6 years I have lost half my body weight - about 8 stone. I did it slowly.
At first I cut down portions and started exercising but then I plateaued quite early on, which is when I started the 5:2 diet. I did this (though sticking at 600 calories) for about 9 months. I think the fasting element was what changed things for me. It seemed to kick start my metabolism and change the amount I wanted to eat.
I tried to be good on the inbetween days but I did eat some treats too.
I gave up after a while and moved onto smaller portions of everything and continued to loose weight.
I have to say it was tough and I chose my fasting days to be when I was desk bound at work. I drank a lot of black coffee.0 -
It worked for me after a fashion but did find that I was over compensating on non-fast days.
I found, to my surprise that the fasting bit was easier than I thought it would be so I've devised my own version.
I eat the same sort of breakfast every day. I can't be creative at that hour of the day. I have more or less whatever I want for lunch but try to be fairly sensible, and that is it for the day. I may have a piece of fruit in the evening if I think about it but often don't bother.
It wouldn't suit everyone but it works for me. Plays havoc with your social life though. I'm lucky that I am retired so can organise my life to suit me.
Basically I just fit my eating into a 6 or 7 hour slot each day. So far I have lost about 3 stones and would like to lose a couple more but am taking it very slowly.
