Mobile text 'scam' "No Limits Games"?

WARNING: I had two texts on 13 September 2016 telling me I had subscribed to "No Limits Games" (which I had not) and that I would be paying £3 per week until I texted 'STOP' to a different 'short code' number (these are used to extract money from you via your phone bill). The second text from the same people gave a web address (nl games . me). I did not reply to either number (the messages appeared to come from 60019 and they gave 62442 as the number to send to STOP message to). A google search found no website at the address given but brought up 'Next Level Games" at nl games . com (ie NOT ".me.). It seems that 'short codes' are being used as a new fraud to trick people into paying for unwanted services. It took me 45 minutes on the phone to 3 Network customer services to get them to stop any payments going out and 'unsubscribe' to these 'services' which I had not requested in the first place.

I get a few spam texts; they're best ignored completely.

I think all the mobile providers have a spam reporting number, to which you just forward the text, then delete. What they do with it I neither know nor care.

It's like email spam, if you respond to any of their suggested numbers, they know you exist.
  • I had the same issue yesterday, September 14th 2016. My phone had been in my jeans pocket I'd tried to unlock it and it had frozen, when I managed to unlock it a few minutes later the "no limits games" home page was open in my browser. I then received the same text as you shortly after and I also have a £3 subscription charge showing on my O2 account. Spent 2 hours on live chat to O2 yesterday evening they refused to refund the charge saying I'd "used the third party service" and that I should contact them for a refund. Phoned the 0800 number in the text this morning and spent 30 minutes on the phone asking for a refund or details of their complaints procedure, they gave me neither and are apparently going to call me back in the next 24 hours (i got fobbed off). They even told me about a game I had supposedly played, no mention of this in my internet history and an amazing feat as my phone wouldn't even unflipping-lock at the time!

Don't know what else to do to get my £3 back but I am at least unsubscribed now and have blocked services like this from charging me in the future (i didn't know they even could before this happened).

It's pretty scary that I'm apparently one accidental click away from handing Lord knows who a blank cheque!

  • I received a text from a different site this morning saying I had signed up for a £4.50 a week service with Cubecontent - a Hungarian game site. I had installed nothing and not been on any web pages on my phone.

It took me less than 10 minutes and that included waiting in the queue with EE to sort out. Well done EE, excellent customer service.

This happened to me last year charged 3 x £9 for downloading films on my phone.I did not do this and phoned three.com to complain they said they could do nothing about it since it was a third party purchase.
I asked them who gave them authority to collect the cash for the 3 rd party they said they did not need it.
The fact is payforit the payment company is owned by the big mobile companies and they get a large chunk of the cash so unwilling to do anything about it unless you are very persistent.
I was at the end of my contract and left 3.com solely because of this.
Looking on the internet thousands are getting done by this scam.

A good tip is to phone your mobile operator and request a " block on all premium services" this should stop you falling for this scam.

Well yes and no, I heard a feature on You and Yours (radio 4) during the week which outlined these subscription scams, with people describing exactly what has happened to those who posted after you.
