Leaving Maternity Cover Job Early? Any Advise Appreciated!!

Hi All,
I have recently started a Maternity cover Admin job in August, this is meant to run for 6 - 8 months depending on how long i'm needed, however a while back I applied for a job that has much better long term career prospects at this time I was not chosen for the role however they invited me to do a couple of days "work experience" with them which I did, They have now started recruiting again and have asked me to apply, so I did and they have now called me for a interview, obviously It is not guaranteed that I will get a job from the interview, if I did would it be bad to leave my current job with only a weeks notice leaving them with potentially no one to cover Maternity leave?
Any advice appreciated

No- Most employers would appreciate that a lower risk full time job is better than a 6-8 month contract with *maybe* some hours if the person on maternity leave doesn't returnHolmes2796 wrote: »Hi All,

Don't worry about the employer- They will sort it.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
I have walked from a maternity leave job when I was taken on direct by the company week after I started as wasn't working out - they had to cope and did. Ended up with 2 apprentices and from what I could determine in subsequent job ad's the job holder did go back part time.
Today if I was in this position, I'd be tempted to give extra notice like a month even if it were a week say. And would tell the employer your giving a second chance to this from the outset so it's clear. Just my opinion as a way not to burn bridges/ease the trouble. They could be okay about it as nobody can determine a company's money flow, multi tasking of others or importance of duties.
But all in all amongst my ramblings You have to do what's right for you.0
