  • My nephew was 18 last week and I didn't know what to get him, ended up buying a really nice leather wallet, which he was thrilled about, even more so when he found the cash inside!

Are there any movies or tv series he likes? Although DVDs are now pretty obsolete for my twin boys (16) thanks to netflixs, one of them does wear the odd t shirt relating to favourite films etc. I've just ordered a bates motel "staff" t shirt as he loves the series.

Biographies of musicians he likes, vouchers for books, cinema, coffee shops etc. Amazon for silly stocking fillers, key rings, usb sticks etc. But I would keep the surprises as cheap as possible as they get older :D

My son is a year younger and also plays PC games. Mine goes thorough headphones every year. He's also been bought things like a gaming mouse and keyboard. There's various things connected to this you could get, but get your son into conversation about any items he'd like.
  • My son will be 16 this year and is obsessed with anime and japanese art/music/nightcore but he loves figures from computer games so we are collecting some of those for him. Maybe something like that but warcraft related??

Easiest way I find is to strike up a conversation with him and see what he says. Maybe he will mention something he wants.

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
    - Mark Twain
Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.
  • Also in possession of a 17 year old drummer (currently practising in the extension attic above my head - oh joy!). How about some decent cases for his drums? My son has just saved up and bought his 'last a lifetime' kit and now is saving towards cases. My son isn't going to study music in Uni and will probably take his electric kit with him rather than the acoustic, but will still need cases for gigs. I think he had some Vic Firth stereo Isolation headphones for his birthday - he finds them really comfortable and can wear his music earbuds underneath (and I don't worry about him going deaf). Or what about a cajon - my son is able to take it with him to friends houses for rehearsals rather than being reliant on rehearsal rooms at 6th Form or in the local town.

Thanks chiefpossession. He does have an acoustic kit and an electric but takes his electric out for gigs- but he doesn't have cases for his big kit. He does have a cajon though. I got it through a brilliant amazon black friday deal nearly 2 years ago and his sister gave it to him. It is really hard. He hoping to study kit and perc at the Royal Northern College of Music. But that is only half an hour's drive from us, so he could still have lifts as he is also in a brass band too, in Stockport. It is really hard at that age, isn't it.

    Money. Cash. Cheque.

That's all they want at that age. Thanks Mum and Dad etc.

Next year he will be an adult.

I give my fourteen yr old nephew money at birthday and Christmas. He loves it. Saves me ages thinking about things. I just said it to him one day and his eyes lit up. Sorted.

I don't think you need to stress too much. Once they get a card and a few bob they know you love them lol. And then they go back to whatever they were doing five minutes ago!
  • The teenage boys in my family usually receive Jack Wills pants, socks, t-shirts. Or Ralph Lauren socks, polo shirt.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
