  • I booked an advance single through East Mids Trains' website for the from 20.37 CHU to ALF this evening (Tues) changing at Stockport. The first leg was cancelled, making it impossible to reach Alfreton by any subsequent train.

Then they would have been responsible for carrying you by an alternative conveyance, such as a taxi at their expense. Or paying for overnight accommodation and allowing you to continue your journey the next day.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Any taxi would be from Chesterfield to Alfreton but would have arrived too late for the last bus to Mansfield . When this last happened a couple of years ago at Piccadilly, I had to turn it down because they would not transport me to Mansfield instead, even though it's the same distance. On both occasions I was visiting my mother and would have been happy with a rebooked off-peak train of my choice the following day. Much cheaper than a taxi for them but no, far too complicated for them to organize. :(

Coz they get away with it. Its the same reason that a train ticket London to Scotland is £1000?..... coz they can get away with it.

£1000 pounds? where do you buy your tickets? look at any train site to get exact prices from circa £100 London to Edinburgh

But to get a train Edinburgh to England as you reverse stated, that's circa £23 to Berwick on tweed LOL:rotfl:

It's called a fact-less rant... they're seemingly very popular these days!

When I went to http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/72098.aspx , I was stunned to discover this illogical discrimination. Surely it can't be correct?
You CAN get a refund as the train was cancelled. This should be obtained from the retailer.

The rule stating you can't get a refund only applies if you decide not to travel through your choice and the train(s) is/are running.
