agency paying 4 weeks in arrears

The paper/cash flow will be something like.
You work a week and do a time sheet
time sheet goes to umbrella then to the agency then to the client.
the client then pay the agency then the agency pays the umbrella then they pay you.
4 weeks to complete the process is a bit high but 2 weeks is not uncommon and if that I the process.
if you don't know how the end client processes and pay the money find out.0 -
Gosh. Got this far and don't have a clue! You can't possibly have an employment contract with an umbrella company. YOU employ them to manage your self employed status! You agreed to four weekly in arrears with the agency, and if you didn't know that, you should have read the contact you signed before you signed it. So what anyone or everyone else does is irrelevant.
So no, you can't demand anything. You can ask. If they say no, get over it. And read your contacts before you sign them.
I feel there are all these men ganging up on me, you are rude you are (not all). I do not have a contract with the agency. I have one with the umbrella company.
Letter from agency: We are pleased to confirm our offer of an Assignment with 'name of local authority' via your chosen Umbrella Company. We have sent them the Agreement for the supply of your services.
This letter is to introduce you to ....................Online Timesheet System and is not to be deemed as a contract between you and 'name of agency'.
Maybe you see what I mean. I am however told that I'm being paid 30 days in arrears and do not know what that is based on.
I'm guessing but I might be wrong that you (who all seem to know better) are all employed on a Ltd company basis. I have found from speaking to friends that they just don't know how an umbrella company works.0 -

Yes I know how it works as they explained it to me when I wasn't being paid in the beginning. Still find it strange that I have to wait that long for my money after I leave.
Thank you for the civil and friendly reply, you seem to be the only one in this thread :-)0 -

It's called PAYE with a standing order.
A month in arrears is also normal for any commission based work also.
Well you were wrong. See other messages in this thread.0 -

I'm not self-employed I'm paid via PAYE (through the umbrella company) and I'm an employee. Maybe you are the one who should think before they write. And you're rude.0 -

Thank you for this most useful contribution.0 -

An umbrella company is a tax dodge for people who are self employed. You pay them to process money coming to you, in order to claim tax benefits that otherwise wouldn't be available to you. You really signed up to all these dealings without having a clue what you were doing? I may be "rude" in your opinion. But I read what I sign and I make sure I know what I am doing before I do it.
This is what you signed up to. You should have read your agreements more carefull. What others do doesn't matter. This is what you signed up to. Stop blaming everyone else for what you did.0 -

Have you ever see an umbrella contract?
Did this for one contract and this is how it worked for me.
What happened you do get an employment contract with the umbrella( you engage them to employ you) and become an employee of the umbrella usually on a PAYE basis.
You are then subcontract out on a fee paying basis to the jobs you do
That's why the dodge works HMRC can't touch it as you are a bog standard PAYE employee paying employers NI and employee NI and tax through PAYE.0 -

The end client does not pay any quicker because you are finishing.
you need to establish the pay cycle better in the future.
with weekly invoicing/pay cycles it should be possible to get it down to 2 weeks(even if they only process once a week on a particular day) and less if you can get the payments processed on receipt by the agency/umbrella.0 -
I've had contracts before where the customer has a 30 day arrangement with the agency.
So agency get money 30 days after timesheet. Agency pass it to umbrella and then after the umbrella has done it's bit it was normally 6 weeks after timesheet signoff before I saw the money.0
